What to Wear to a Haunted House

One of my friends had an extra ticket to a bucket list item of mine and it's happening.... Tomorrow night I’m heading to 13th Floor Haunted House in Denver, and if you’ve ever been, you know this isn’t your average “boo” situation — it’s a full-on adrenaline rush wrapped in fog machines, jump scares, and creepy laughter that’ll haunt your dreams (in the best way).
Now, before you strut in thinking “fashion over function,” let me save you from learning the hard way.Last time I went, I made the mistake of wearing neon pink… and ALL the clowns came for me. I don’t know if it was my bright aura or the fact that I looked like an easy target in highlighter pink, but I’ve never been chased so fast in my life. Also, I was 17 when I went to my last haunted house, I've learned a few things. Lesson learned: blend in, babe.
Here’s your Haunted House Survival Style Guide:
👻 Dress for the Scream
Black. Always black. Not only does it hide sweat (and fear), it also helps you blend into the darkness — aka less likely to become a clown magnet.
Closed-toe shoes only. You will run. You will step on fake blood, fog, and your pride.
Layers are your friend. Haunted houses can get hot inside but freezing while you wait in line. Go for a zip-up hoodie or lightweight jacket.
Leave the purse. Bring a crossbody or fanny pack that keeps your essentials secure.
🧟 Bonus Tips
Avoid flashy jewelry or glow-in-the-dark anything unless you want to be a moving target.
Go minimal with makeup — mascara + eyeliner only if you don’t want to emerge looking like you survived The Ring.
And if you’re going with friends… choose wisely. You’ll find out real quick who the scream-first-ask-questions-later type is.
🕷️ Final Thought
Whether you’re braving the haunted halls solo or with your ride-or-die crew, remember: half the fun is losing your voice from screaming — and maybe your dignity if a clown catches you off-guard.
So tomorrow, it’s black on black everything, combat boots laced tight, and a vow to never wear neon again. Wish me luck at the 13th Floor… if I don’t make it out, tell my story — and my outfit — were on point.
