Beauty within the Shadows: Why Dark Aesthetics are anything But Negative

When people hear the word dark, their mind associates it with emotions like sadness, anger, or being heart broken. But for those of us who have embraced the shadows, we know better. Darkness is not the absence of beauty, but rather the depth that makes the light stand out sharper.

I wear a lot of black... When I say a lot of black, I mean I spend ten to fifteen minutes irritated because I can't find a specific black shirt amongst the darkness that is my closet. I have no shame in this, but this is my way of expressing my truth. I am saying, "Hey world, I am unapologetically myself and not afraid of what you think."
For me, this stems from me being an elder emo but also desiring to grow up and be Morticia Adaams. I wanted to grow up and have this mystical aura about me but look polished at the same time. It is a refusal to be ordinary, and after all: ordinary is so common and boring.
So if anyone has ever told you that you are too much or too intense, remember these things:
They can go find less if you are too much.
Intensity is a gift that not everyone can appreciate. Keep being intense.
There is beauty within the strangeness.
The world needs people who can embrace the shadows and see the beauty within themselves. And if you are one of those people, keep being that person! We were never meant to fit in, but we are made to stand out.
So ask yourself this:
Am I trying to fit in, when I was made to stand out? How am I doing this? Why am I doing this? How do I change this?
